The Federal Election is only weeks away and I want to take this opportunity to contact you to discuss my concerns regarding the lack of clear action in Canberra regarding clean energy policy. I also want to urge you to commit to implementing strong and sensible policy for the next term of government and beyond.

Federal politics has failed Australian’s when it comes to energy policy. The last few years have been a roller-coaster and it’s fair to say that the majority of Australian’s are frustrated with the lack of action in Canberra concerning transitioning to clean energy.

Australian’s want leadership when it comes to clean energy; and we want long-term commitment.

Despite the lack of leadership, investment in clean energy is at an all-time high – with over $20 billion of investment in new large-scale wind and solar projects and reaching the milestone of over 2 million Australian homes now having rooftop solar. But imagine what Australia could achieve with federal policies committed to transitioning us away from coal and developing our clean energy potential.

I am calling on you to commit to implementing the policy recommendations that the Clean Energy Council, as the peak body of the Australian clean energy industry, are recommending. These ten recommendations are:

•	Commit to a target of zero emissions from the electricity sector well before 2050 and a minimum target of 50 per cent renewable energy by 2030.

•	Accelerate reforms and finance support to develop Australia’s electricity transmission network for a clean energy future

•	Encourage the uptake of energy storage and batteries

•	Maintain the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES)

•	Mandate solar power in all new homes

•	Support innovation in finance, technology and integration and extend the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC)

•	Commit to the development of a clean energy export strategy

•	Support skills development to meet the demand of a growing clean energy industry

•	Support the establishment of a battery manufacturing and recycling industry

•	Develop a single national electrical safety body.
